Carrier Mitsubishi Electric Cooling and Heating Aaon Comfortmaker AC and Heating Daikin Hoshizaki America, Inc

dan willingham As a Gainesville native I grew up in the heating and A/C industry and started working when I was five years old. Yes. Five years old. My main responsibility: handing tools to my father, Donald Willingham, then owner of Willingham Heating & Air. At age nine, I started working summers to make money, and by age 17, I was working full-time for the family business. I took a short break and ventured to Texas and then Orlando, but returned to my roots and dedicated myself ever since to serving the North Central Florida community by providing residential and commercial A/C and refrigeration systems, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, exhaust hoods, ice machines, small medical facilities and some stainless steel work. In 2010, my father, Donald, turned over the business to me, and although the company name has changed from Willingham Heating & Air to Chillit Inc., the core values have remained the same.

My team and I, which includes my 70-year-old dad who now works for me, are committed to customer satisfaction by ensuring that every job is done right. I promise that I will not sell anything I am not willing to put in my own house, my prices are fair, and I offer free estimates for those calling for a second opinion and anyone who needs a new system (I always give two to three options to suit customers’ budgets). I also support my local community. My company and I love supporting the military, police and first responders. We try to run specials all the time. I have a lot of family in the military, and I know the sacrifices they make. My dad worked as a refrigeration specialist for four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, and his experience inspired him to open his business in 1975 and teach me everything he knows. And now, my 14-year-old daughter, Nicole, is learning the ropes. She has recently stepped up to be a part-time bookkeeper for the business.

I serve all of Alachua County and most of Levy County and stay current in the field by attending manufacturer’s training when new systems and techniques come out.

I offer the following advice for folks:

  • † Check your air filters monthly.
  • † Consider purchasing a service plan for system check-ups twice per year (once before the cooling season and once before the heating season) to head off costs.
  • † If you are looking for someone to do repairs, do your research. When I make large purchases or hire someone, I look at multiple websites for reviews. False reviews are less likely to appear across several sites and buyers beware. If a manufacturer has a really good compressor warranty, investigate the compressor because it may have a high failure rate. Everything comes down to shaving costs, and sometimes companies shave quality in the process.

I keep busy heating and cooling North Central Florida; in addition to thousands of residential customers. My dad and I have outfitted many commercial locations, including Yamato’s, Moe’s and the Flying Biscuit Café. I also keep busy with my wife, Bonnie, and our four children—Nicole (14), Nate (16), Amber (36) and James (35). My family enjoys hunting and fishing, and I coach girls’ and boys’ basketball at Creekside Christian School in Otter Creek, Florida. I am also building a local chapter of a scholastic 3D archery program in which Nate and friends compete for scholarships. Bonnie works part-time at Creekside Christian School.

† Chillit, Inc. is family owned and operated.
† We view all of our customers as our neighbors.
† We believe in providing great service with integrity for our neighbors in need.
